Shopify Video Ads: Complete Guide for Store Owners

Everything Shopify merchants need to know about creating video ads with AI. Boost sales with professional product videos.

A Shopify store gives you something most advertisers have to build from scratch: structured product data that is already accurate and already yours. Titles, descriptions, images, variants. That data is the raw material for an advertisement, and the reason most merchants never use it that way is that turning it into video used to require a production step.

The shortest path

Paste a Shopify product URL. The importer reads the title, the description and the imagery. The AI plans the ad before rendering anything, hook, benefit, call to action, and you download an MP4.

Nothing is installed on your store and no permissions are granted for this path; a public product URL is enough. A Shopify app also exists if you would rather connect the store and import your catalogue in one step, but it is not required.

Where the video goes, in order of return

Paid social first. This is where you find out whether the creative works, in days rather than weeks, and where fresh assets have continuous value because campaigns fatigue. If you are only going to place a video in one location, place it here.

The product page second. Near the images, not at the bottom. This is where video reduces the specific hesitation that photographs leave: scale, texture, mechanism.

Collection pages third, and only for the products you already know convert. A collection page full of autoplaying video is a slow page, and page speed costs you more than the videos gain.

Choosing the format

  • 1:1 or 4:5 for the product gallery, which holds more of a phone screen than a landscape crop.
  • 9:16 for Reels, Stories and TikTok ads, planned vertical rather than cropped.
  • 16:9 for YouTube, in-stream placements and desktop landing pages.

Generating twice from the same product link takes minutes, so cropping is rarely the right trade.

A practical note on speed

Shopify themes vary enormously in how they handle video. Before you add one to a template that renders on every product page, check what it does to your load time on a phone on a mediocre connection. A video that adds two seconds to first paint is a video that costs you more visits than it converts.

The safe pattern is a poster image with the video loading on interaction, or lazy loading below the fold. Your theme documentation is the authority on how yours behaves.

What you get

MP4 in the ratio you chose, 720p by default and 1080p on the premium models. The €5 entry offer produces one short clip of about 12 seconds so you can judge the result on one of your own products. The paid plans produce multi-chapter videos of 24, 32 or 36 seconds, built from 12-second chapters with audio continuity. You own the commercial rights, including for paid advertising.

Where to start and where to stop

Start with two or three best sellers, measure conversion rate on those pages against the previous equivalent period, and only expand once you have an answer. Working through an entire catalogue before knowing whether the format suits your products is the most common and most expensive mistake here.
