The import step is the least glamorous part of making a video ad and the part that decides most of the quality. Here is what it reads, what it does with it, and what to do when it fails.
What gets read
Paste a public product URL and the importer extracts the title, the description or bullet points, and the imagery. On Amazon that means the listing title, the bullets and the carousel images. On Shopify it means the product title, the description body and the gallery.
That material becomes the brief. It is why an ad generated from a well-written listing is better than one generated from a listing that says "New 2026 Multi-function Portable Premium Quality": the planner has facts to work with in the first case and adjectives in the second.
Which stores work
Amazon, Shopify, AliExpress, eBay, Etsy, Temu and thousands of others are read directly. There is nothing to install and no permissions to grant, because the importer reads the public page exactly as a visitor would.
A Shopify app also exists if you would rather connect the store and import a catalogue in one step, but for a single product a URL is faster.
When it fails, and what to do
Some sites block automated requests. Some pages render their content in a way that leaves nothing readable. Some listings are behind a region check.
When any of that happens the agent tells you plainly rather than producing something vague from nothing. The fallback is to upload two or three photographs and describe the product in a sentence. The rest of the flow is identical, and the quality difference is smaller than people expect, because images do most of the work anyway.
Fixing the input before you generate
Two habits that improve output more than any setting.
Rewrite the description if it is machine-translated. AliExpress and Temu listings in particular are often keyword soup with wrong measurements. Give the agent two honest sentences instead: what it is, who it is for, what it does that matters.
Override the images if the store ones are weak. You can upload better photographs over an imported product. The importer supplies the structure and the facts; nothing stops you supplying better visuals.
Amazon-specific notes
The bullets are the most useful part of an Amazon listing for planning, because they are already written as benefits. If your bullets are keyword-stuffed rather than benefit-led, the ad will inherit that, and the fix is to give the agent a cleaner sentence in the chat.
If you plan to upload the result back to Seller Central, check Amazon's current video specification for your category first. It varies and it changes, and Amazon is the authority on its own rules.
What you end up with
A standard MP4 in the ratio you chose, 720p by default and 1080p on the premium models. The €5 entry offer produces one short clip of about 12 seconds; paid plans produce multi-chapter videos of 24, 32 or 36 seconds with audio continuity between chapters.
