Pinterest Product Video Pins: Complete Guide

Why Pinterest is an underrated goldmine for e-commerce video. Learn how to create optimized Video Pins that drive traffic and sales.

Pinterest behaves unlike the other visual platforms, and the difference is worth understanding before you decide whether it deserves your time. It is a planning tool that people use with intent, and content on it has a much longer life than on any feed.

Why the mechanics favour products

People arrive searching, not scrolling. A large share of Pinterest activity is people looking for something specific: a kitchen idea, an outfit, a gift. That is closer to a search engine than to a social feed, and it means a product Pin can meet someone already at the deciding stage.

Pins persist. A Pin saved today can keep surfacing months later, because the platform surfaces by relevance rather than recency. Content you make once continues working, which changes the arithmetic of producing it.

Saves are a signal you can read. A save is a stronger intent marker than a like, because the person is filing it for later use rather than reacting to it.

We are not going to attach percentages to any of that, because the figures that circulate about Pinterest are unsourced and repeated. Test it against your own categories instead.

What works as a video Pin

Vertical, 9:16 or 2:3. Pinterest is a vertical surface and a landscape crop wastes most of the canvas.

Legible without sound. Pinterest video autoplays muted in the feed. Anything essential must be visible.

A clear subject in the first frame. The Pin is competing in a dense grid, and the first frame is doing thumbnail duty whether you planned it or not.

Something to imagine yourself into. Pinterest users are planning, so a product in a context outperforms a product on white more often here than elsewhere.

The text is half the work

Pinterest reads. Titles and descriptions genuinely affect whether a Pin is found, in a way they do not on TikTok. Write them as you would write a product page title: what it is, plainly, using the words someone would type. Save the cleverness for somewhere it earns something.

Board organisation matters for the same reason. A Pin in a coherent board is easier for the system to categorise than one in a general catch-all.

Generating them

Paste the product URL and the importer reads the title, description and images. The AI plans the sequence and renders it. Choose 9:16.

The €5 entry offer produces one short clip of about 12 seconds, which is a natural length for a Pin. The paid plans produce multi-chapter videos of 24, 32 or 36 seconds when a product needs a second beat.

Which catalogues Pinterest suits

Home, decor, fashion, food, gifting, anything with a planning horizon. It suits impulse categories and technical products much less, and there is no point forcing it.

The cheapest test: take three products you think fit, generate one video Pin each, and see whether saves accumulate over a month rather than a day. Pinterest rewards patience in a way that makes short tests misleading.
